LEAF Rating

At Laguna Green, we have developed the LEAF® Rating system as a way to easily identify how green a product is and what factors contribute to making it green. Each product we carry has a LEAF® Rating from one to four. The more leaves, the greener the product

  • Locally Made – Is the product made within 500 miles of Laguna Beach?
  • Energy and Water Conservation – Does the product help to conserve energy or water? Is it Energy Star or WaterSense rated?
  • Air Quality – Is the product formaldehyde free and/or does it have low or no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)?
  • Formulation – Does the product contain at least 50% recycled content or is it reclaimed or made from rapidly renewable or carefully managed resources?

When evaluating the products we carry in our showroom, we consider these four factors. Every product we carry must meet at least one of the LEAF criteria. In addition, we look at the company’s overall commitment to people and the planet through the supply chain, their manufacturing processes, their environmental policies, and their commitment to creating a healthy, safe, fun, and fair work environment for their employees.

About

Pam Sterling, owner of Laguna Green, left a successful career in the corporate world to follow her passion in sustainable design. Having spent most of her adult life designing as an avocation, she began to imagine what it would be like to actually follow her passion for a living. “Once I began to imagine it,” she says, “everything just fell into place.”

Pam admits that she has not always been so green. “I would recycle if it was convenient.” she says. And her design work was not informed by eco-principles. “But when I began to understand how we actually create the energy that surrounds us, I began to change many things in my life, including my relationship to the environment.”

Ultimately that eco-awakening shaped her passion for design, with a focus on design for style and sustainability. “I think my journey toward a more eco-conscious lifestyle, is one to which many people can relate. I think all of us want to create a healthier environment for ourselves, our families, and the generations to come, but many of us aren’t sure what options are available to us. That’s why my first commitment is to education. I love helping people understand what the possibilities are in eco-smart and people-friendly products, practices and design. If I can help just one person take just one step toward creating a healthier home, that makes me happy… and Laguna Green helps me do that.“
